August 03

TGIA. Thank God it's August. I remain forever optimistic. The Summer Surf Duldroms are behind us! Yes, there's been a some fun choplets here and there, but a change is in order. Looking back at last August, I can't say we exactly scored, BUT, if expectations are realized, this season should be a different animal. In short, the tide has turned (you wouldn't know it looking out my window ... it's flat), H season is heating up and we are good to go until next F season. For now, get those repairs taken care of and keep your woman happy, soon you and your board are going to be getting busy.

It's a cooker out there. Thunderheads just offshore threatening. If you are going to make it a beach day, I'd get here fast. Maybe / maybe not kiteable. Off for a run with camera in hand. Hopefully will capture some quality shots of the local wildlife for an afternoon photo update.

Stormy flatness.

August 04 August 05 August 06
Presently, sunny, still and flat. Thunderheads waiting just off-shore for an early morning advance. Meanwhile, our upcoast brothers receive yet another fine serving of summer waves. South Florida's day will come. I'm hoping soon ... Flat

Against my better judgment took a run on the beach this morning with a very large, ominous storm sitting off-shore providing quite the light show. Ankle high unrideable storm waves washing up on shore.

Marine ecosystem to Jim Higgins, the dark star is sitting, once again, in my backyard ready to unleash destruction. Yes, the dredge has returned!

Sunny with light unrideable chop. Sunny for now, but judging by the past few days, it's just not going to last. Thunderstorms on the march off-shore. Surf is looking bleak in the short-term up and down the coast. I keep telling myself the worst is behind us, but if conditions don't change soon, I'm going to crack. And, I don't think I'll be the only one ... 10 to 15 S wind all morning, picking up to 15 + with approaching storm from the W. Kiters were ripping it up for a short while until someone high up flipped the switch. Now, light S wind and still no rain, but threatening.

Much like yesterday, but less wind. Intermittent thunderstorms. Rain .... sun ... showers .... thunder .... little more sun. Light chop with one kiter out. E wind picking up with approaching W storms then dying out soon there after. Saw one surfer carrying a short board either to use as a serving tray or as make-shift shelter from storms. Mosquito paradise - flat, muggy and still. Much needed relief may arrive later in the week. Stay tuned ... No sunrise shot this morning. This bum was banking sleep I know I won't be getting the rest of the week. Actually, sunrise or not, I'm fed up with these boring waveless shots I've been taking. If you consider yourself a South Florida surfer, relief is on its way. The wind is presently SE at 10 to 15 mph. Surf should pick up to knee to thigh by this afternoon. By tomorrow AM, anywhere from knee to waist+ is a strong possibility. From there, with a sustained 20 to 25 knot E wind we are looking at possible head high drop power chop. Fuck yeah. It's about flippen time. If you don't find time to hit it this week, Johnny don't surf ..

Surfed sunrise. Thigh plus fun, and only getting bigger and better from here. Wind is beginning to pick up. Go surf!

Just not what I was expecting this morning. Waist plus. Slight S drift. ESE wind @ 15+. Really nothing special and seemed to be dropping off in size. Go to work / school.

Knee to thigh high leftovers this AM. 10 to 15 mph E wind. Session started with a Perseids shooting star. One of many reasons why we surf. Pic update a little later courtesy LIQUID ADDICTION.

Strolled on N of Palm Beach for an early morning session. Started out dismal. Max knee high. Took a run on the beach, while the tide switched and returned for consistent knee to max thigh high residual swell. Very fun. Always a pleasure to surf with a South Florida legend, Seacliff ... and his lady.

At home. Boca is maybe knee high and maybe rideable. Wind E @ 10+.

Summer beach day. Light E wind. Unrideable. Off on a recon local wildlife recon mission. Will update later ... Flat and still. This week looks bleak. Get those repairs in. I think our time is near.

Painfully flat. Storms off-shore.

Kelly Slater on 103.1, The Buzz, this morning pumping his book. Be sure to call in and ask him about Pam.

Heavy rain on a flat Atlantic. The summer doldrums drag on ... and on .... and on .... Rideable knee high wavelets. SE wind @ 10 to 15 with higher gusts. Thunderstorm moving on-shore from the South. Looks like another flat weekend on tap. Marine forecast does mention an "approaching tropical disturbance" Monday and Tuesday....
August 22 August 23 August 24
Light wind, sun showers and no rideable surf here. TD9 continues to target South Florida. Flatness soon to end ... TD9 fizzled but we should have something to play mid-week. Today, incredibly hot and humid. Almost revisited breakfast during my morning run. Light E wind @ 5mph. Clouds on the march from the W. Unrideable for those over 35 pds. Pics to come later. Some of surf. Some of the local wildlife. The natives were restless ..... Nothing going on here. Rain came and went but flatness persists. Pics taken at mid-day.
August 25 August 26 August 27
More of the same. Unrideable. Tropical wave may give us just enough push for knee high chop tomorrow AM. Wednesday and Thursday looking a little better. Will update tonight.

To go out small wave hunting in this weather, one would require a half a brain. Two surfers would require 1/4 each.

Ankle to max knee high. Heavy rain with one hell of a light show. SE wind is picking up. Marine forecast calls for knee high chop the rest of the week. We'll take it one session at a time ..

Surfed 6 - 7:30. Started out knee to thigh plus and very fun. By the time I got out of the water to take pics, the tide had fattened and the surf had flattened. Might be fun again when the tide changes. E wind @ 10.

Congratulations to Lisa and Kevin on the birth of Emerson Brook Anarchy. Once those cats start scratching away at the line-up, it's all over.

Best surf of the week. Waist to chest high thumpers before sunrise. After sun popped, size dropped flattening things out to thigh to waist high. Should hold, at least, through the day. Go get yourself some!

Presently, very heavy rain and 20 + E wind.

I woke up to surf this AM, while the camera slept in. Sorry, no pic update. Leftover knee high dregs this morning. Plenty of small rides to be had and, unlike the past couple days, it improved after sunrise. Wind has also picked up considerably after sunrise. Almost still while in the water, but a solid 15 mph now. Backyard looking knee to thigh.

urfed 6:15 to 8:30. Started out pretty lame, stayed lame, then Pottsie got of the water. Thanks man! Once the sacrificial lamb exited, waves kicked up to solid waist high, consistent and very fun. The tide was beginning to take it down a bit when we got out of the water, but it was still fun thigh to waist. Looking to hold through the weekend. Will update pics a little later. 3pm Update: still cranking! Go surf!

August 31

Surfed 6 to 9am. Solid thigh to waist high, plus on sets.

Presently, wind still blowing 15 to 20. Go grab yourself some!
